1) Unlimited Water and the Federal Drug Administration

We have learned that Unlimited Water has received a notice from the FDA regarding some compliance issues regarding documentation of certain processes at Unlimited’s plant. Unlimited Water has worked with the FDA to address and correct those issues and now awaits a follow-up review. It is important to note that there has NOT been an FDA recall of any Unlimited water product; nor has production been affected. We will provide an update following the next FDA review.

Should you have any questions, please contact Greg Mosley, Associate Director Purchasing Services, at 314-935-5927 or gmosley@wustl.edu.

2) Marketplace News

Shipping Charges
There is a best practice to use when creating your requisition that will include known shipping charges.

Rather than create a separate line item in your requisition as a “shipping charge”, please follow these steps.

After clicking on “Proceed to Checkout”:
1) click on the “Shipping & Handling Charges” tab
2) click on “edit” button below the unit price
3) select “override” from the drop-down box
4) enter the shipping amount and hit “save”
5) click the “Summary” tab to return to the PR
6) You are free to create your requisition when ready

Marketplace Updates
Please note that due to program updates, Marketplace will not be available beginning Friday March 27 at 5:00 pm through 5:00 pm Sunday March 29.

3) Specialty Underwriters – Equipment Maintenance Program

The equipment maintenance program with Specialty Underwriters continues to grow and provide significant savings to departments and labs. This program now covers over $1,000,000 in contract value and the annual savings is approaching $370,000. Typically, once equipment is placed on the program, the costs are stabilized and held firm for a number of years. A recent review of upcoming service agreements with the original equipment manufacturers indicates another $1,400,000 in value could be placed under this program. The additional savings opportunity would easily exceed $250,000.

New this year is a program with Life Technologies covering Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen and Life Tech instruments. Specialty Underwriters will purchase your service agreement with Life Technologies but at the reduced Specialty Underwriters rate. The lab gets the same equipment coverage from Life Technologies they have always received but now at a lower rate.

We encourage departments to consider the Specialty Underwriters program the next time your existing equipment service agreement is up for renewal.

Contact Matt Roncone, Specialty Underwriters at 414-281-1100 or Beth Owen, Purchasing Services, at 314-935-7688 with questions.
